How to Create a Full Backup Image of Windows 10 and how to Restore it

Windows 10 has an inbuilt powerful tool that can create a system backup image as a backup of your operating system. So, you may restore from it anytime whenever your computer fails to boot. This process is not too typical, it is even very simple. So, let’s see what you need to do to take a complete backup of your Windows 10.

How to create a system backup image

First, you must have a target drive on which to save the backup image. It could be DVD or an USB drive.  This way you may save the backup from failing if the main drive is damaged or failed to boot.  We will go into more detail later about the image saving options. Start with the process of creating the backup image, follow the following steps.


  1.  With this intention, please enter into the control panel, by typing control in the search bar:
  2. Once the control panel is open, please enter the Backup  and Restore (Windows 7).
  3. In the next screen please click on Create a system image.

  5. After selecting the location, just start the process and wait a few minutes while the wizard does his work.


How to Restore backup image

To restore the backup image from Windows 10, follow the following steps:
  1. Press the Win + I combination to enter the settings. Once there, please go to Update & Security.
  2. On the next screen, click on Recovery.
  3. From the Recovery, menu please select Restart Now. This will restart your computer and display the Windows advanced options. Once there, click on System Image Recovery.
  4. After that, it will ask you to select the created system image drive. Select the drive where you have backed up and followed the on-screen further instructions.

Restore procedure if your Windows won’t boot.

Windows 10 may have trouble in booting. Or that the system has simply been completely damaged. In that case, it is still possible to restore the backup image. In the event, it is imperative to have a device of installing Windows. This can be a DVD, USB or network address. Next, proceed as if you were going to format Windows 10.  On the contrary,  when you get to the installation menu, instead of pressing Next, please click on Repair your computer.
