  1. Upgraded to IE 11; removed Foxfire as it crashed my computer. Killed my Nortons Internet security. Had to go into the registry to reset my outlook html defaults….still can’t download programs from IE 11. What is the deal. It is so frustrating. It there something that can be changed in the registry. the html settings still show Firefox as the default, even though it was removed. I will NOT put Firefox back on my computer.

  5. After a month experience – the best solution is to downgrade to Internet explorer 9. Both – 10 and 11 cannot download at all…

  6. I had this “cannot download” problem for many weeks. Nothing worked and I came to the conclusion that IE9 itself was the culprit. So, today, I removed it and voila! I can download files again. IE merely reverted to the previopus edition (IE8) and all that’s changed is appearance–and the fact that I can now download files again!

  7. Thanks, it worked for me. I had this error when i tried to download anything on internet “file contained a virus was deleted”. Finally i solved it by using your instructions, step 1 worked for me. Thanks you so much.

how are you suppose to download the removal tool, when you cannot download anything in the first place??? how about a solution that actually works.

Please read the comment of sandaruwan. You can use another browser to download the file like firefox chrome etc. or downgrade the IE9 as described by sandaruwan. or you can use another computer and transfer file with the help of pen drive.

  9. sandaruwan

if you are use IE9, you should have to downgrade it to IE8.
then you have to set “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Attachments\ScanWithAntiVirus” registry value as 1. that means off state.
    chrome ,firefox also work perfect.
